The Virtual University of Pakistan (VUP) is committed to providing scholarships to help students in need base and a merit base for those who have earned outstanding academic achievement. VU’s mission is to help students to achieve success and realize their full potential regardless of their financial circumstances. Merit-based scholarships are awarded to those who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance. These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and the student’s ability to demonstrate financial need. Need-based scholarships are awarded to those who demonstrate financial need.

How to Apply for VU Scholarship?

To obtain a scholarship at the Virtual University (VU), please follow the following instructions

Merit-based Scholarship

  • If you are a new student, there is no need to submit a separate application for the scholarship. Your admission application will automatically be considered for the merit-based scholarship.
  • If you are already studying at the virtual university, your application will also be automatically considered for merit base scholarship of your programs.

Need-Based Scholarship

  • New students who require a scholarship should include the scholarship application along with their admission application. This way, the university will consider you for a scholarship based on your merit and financial need.
  • Existing students should submit the scholarship application online through the student services section of LMS. Access the scholarship application form, complete it thoroughly, and submit it along with any required supporting documentation.

1. Virtual University Merit-based Scholarship

Virtual University awards Merit-based scholarships to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, typically in the form of high grades or CGPA. Such scholarships can be a great incentive for students to strive for higher grades and work harder to achieve their academic goals.

In this category, two types of scholarships are being offered by virtual university  

  1.  Merit Base scholarship for Existing students

The merit-based scholarship is awarded to VU exiting students who have achieved academic excellence during the semester. The criteria for selection may generally include high grades and outstanding academic results. Recipients of merit-based scholarships are usually selected by the university selection committee and are awarded for a specific period. These scholarships provide them with financial assistance to help them continue their studies and excellence.

Merit-based scholarship rules for existing student

  • Scholarships will cover part or all of the tuition fees for the semester and students have to pay all other dues.
  • Scholarships will only be for one semester
  • Only students who are not receiving any other kind of scholarship or financial assistance will be eligible for this scholarship
  • Scholarships can only be given to students who have not received an exemption from any course
  • To be eligible for merit scholarships, students must not have any failed or repeated courses
  • The scholarship shall be terminated if the student freezes the semester, withdraws the admissions, or discontinues studies
  • The scholarship shall be terminated if the student is convicted in any unfair means or disciplinary case
  • A student who had their scholarship terminated will not be able to receive any more scholarships for the same study program
  • To be eligible for a merit scholarship, the student must have earned the same or more credits as stated in their course of study
  • The University shall prepare separate merit lists for each of its programs based on semester GPA
  • To be eligible for a merit scholarship, students must have achieved a semester GPA of at least 3.25 and a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • One scholarship will be awarded to every 50 students in a study program. The most scholarships that can be awarded for any study program is ten as per the above section describe
  • In case of any tie, if two or more students have the same marks/CGPA in the examination used to create the merit list, the marks/CGPA obtained in the review before that will be used to determine which student is higher on the merit list. If the tie remains, the student with the younger date of birth will be given precedence.
  1. Merit-Based scholarship for newly admitted Students

The Virtual University also offers a scholarship for newly admitted students who have achieved excellence in their previous academic records. The scholarship covers tuition fees only for the semester. It is available to all incoming undergraduate and graduate students and is renewable for up to the semester and will be continuing with subject to the further academic performance. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and does not require any extra forms or applications because the university management committee decided to award it.

  1. The University will make separate lists for each of its programs based on the examination in which the admission was awarded.
  2. Students who have achieved a minimum of 65% marks or a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or a minimum CGPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 will be eligible for a merit-based scholarship
  3. One scholarship will be awarded to every 50 students in a study program. The most scholarships that can be awarded for any study program is ten as per the above section describe
  4. In case of any tie, if two or more students have the same marks/CGPA in the examination used to create the merit list, the marks/CGPA obtained in the review before that will be used to determine which student is higher on the merit list. If the tie remains, the student with the younger date of birth will be given precedence.

2. Virtual University Need Base Scholarship

The need base scholarship provides financial support to students who demonstrate financial need. It is open to all qualified students regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity. The scholarship is typically awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. It is intended to cover tuition, fees. The need base scholarship is an excellent way to help students pursue their educational goals without incurring significant debt. It also helps build a foundation for future success by providing students with the resources necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.

Rules of need base Scholarships for continuing students

  1. To be eligible for a scholarship, a student must have earned the same or more credits than what is required in the program they are studying
  2. Students who receive Need Based scholarships must get at least a 2.25 grade point average (GPA) each semester and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50. If they do not meet these requirements, their scholarship will be taken away
  3. If a student does not maintain the required CGPA of 2.50, their scholarship may be withdrawn. If they then achieve the required CGPA, they may be eligible for the scholarship again, the resumption of the scholarship shall be subject to the availability of funds

 2. Need base Scholarship for newly admitted students

The virtual university also offers the need base scholarship for newly admitted students.

Rules of Need Base Scholarships for Existing Students

  1. Students intending to avail Need Based scholarships shall apply on the prescribed form at the time of filing the admission application
  2. Students who have achieved a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 or a CGPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 (whichever is applicable) will be eligible for a Need-Based scholarship.
  3. The University shall compile separate Merit Lists of the eligible applicants for each of its programs based on the examination on which the admission was granted.
  4. The top students on each Merit List shall be awarded Need Based scholarships.
  5. In case of any tie, if two or more students have the same marks/CGPA in the examination used to create the merit list, the marks/CGPA obtained in the examination before that will be used to determine which student is higher on the merit list. If the tie remains, the student with the younger date of birth will be given precedence.

General Rules of Need Base Scholarships

  10. The Management Committee will decide how many scholarships there will be and how much amount each scholarship is worth based on the amount available in the budget for that year.

Announcement of Scholarship

The selected students have been informed about the award of merit base as well as need base scholarships through a list announced by the finance department of VU on the notice board of LMS.

Management Committee Decision

The management committee will go through all the applications thoroughly and the management committee’s decision will be final. If the students have an objection to the decision of the management committee, then he/she will contact to virtual university through VU Support System.   

FAQs

The virtual university offers a merit base and need-base to students, in this regard, students can avail 100%, 75%, or 50% of the scholarship of the semester.

Merit Base

  • To be eligible for a merit scholarship, students must have achieved a semester GPA of at least 3.25 and a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • Students who have achieved a minimum of 65% marks or a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or a minimum CGPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 will be eligible for a merit-based scholarship

Need Base

  • Students who have achieved a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 or a CGPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 (whichever is applicable) will be eligible for a Need-Based scholarship.
