Virtual University of Pakistan celebrated its 13th Convocation

The Virtual University of Pakistan marked the inauguration of its 13th Convocation’s initial phase at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of His Excellency Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan and Chancellor of Virtual University, alongside Mr. Hassan Nasir Jamy, Secretary of the Ministry of IT & Telecom, as the special guest.

President Dr. Arif Alvi delivered a poignant address, highlighting the pressing need for educational reform in Pakistan. He emphasized, “Our educational system lags behind our neighboring nations, necessitating significant improvements. The plight of millions of out-of-school children demands focused attention from the government.” Dr. Alvi, a fervent supporter of Virtual University, expressed profound admiration for the institution and its educational approach, stating, “Since assuming office, I’ve staunchly advocated for Virtual University. I hold a deep affinity for its mode of education, believing that all universities should emulate its model.”

Dr. Alvi lauded Virtual University’s endeavors, noting its remarkable increase in admissions from 25,000 to 55,000 without relying on government funding.

Prof. Dr. Arshad Saleem Bhatti, Rector of Virtual University, illuminated the institution’s dedication to national progress by establishing campuses in underprivileged regions like Baluchistan and Turbat.

Highlighting recent international accolades, including the Excellence Award from the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), Dr. Bhatti underscored the university’s global recognition.

At this convocation, a total of 22,762 students across diverse disciplines, from Associate Degrees to master and MS degrees, became eligible for degrees nationwide, with 7,378 degrees conferred at the Jinnah Convention Center, Islamabad.

Dr. Faisal Tehseen Shah, Controller of Examination at Virtual University, announced the conferral of 34 Gold Medals and 72 Merit Certificates to exceptional students in Islamabad during the initial phase of the 13th Convocation.

The Rector extended gratitude to President Dr. Arif Alvi, the Ministry of IT & Telecom Secretary, distinguished guests, and the entire Virtual University community for their unwavering dedication to advancing online education in Pakistan.
