Virtual University BS Economics

The virtual university’s Bachelor of Science in Economics program is intended for students who have completed 12 years of education. They are looking for a comprehensive economics education that is knowledge-based, career-oriented, and in line with market demands.

BS economics offers a curriculum that is a combination of various courses, including theoretical, quantitative, and applied areas in economics.

The theoretical courses in this program provide the students with a compact foundation in economic concepts, and principles. These courses cover the following topics in microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic history, and economic policy. This enables the students to develop a deep understanding of the fundamental principles that are governed by economic systems.

BS Economics

The quantitative courses in this program equip students with essential mathematical, statistical, and econometric skills which are necessary for the students to analyze economic data, conduct empirical research, and make informed decisions based on data-driven evidence.

The applied courses in the program focus on real-world applications of economic theories and techniques. These courses may include areas such as labor economics, international economics, environmental economics, financial economics, and public economics, among others. Students learn how to apply economic concepts and tools to analyze and solve complex problems related to real-world economic issues, such as globalization, environmental sustainability, poverty, and public policy.

BS Economics Objectives

The main objective is to attain the highest possible standards of excellence in education, teaching, and research in economics.

  • Equip students with a thorough understanding of economic theory related to global economic issues and their impact on Pakistan’s economy.
  • Foster independent research and learning skills in students.
  • Prepare students for further studies in economics.
  • Create economics experts who can comprehend and analyze the issues facing developing nations like Pakistan.

BS Economics Eligibility

12 years of Education, minimum 45% marks, FA/FSC/ICS/I.COM

  1. Candidates with less than 45% marks can be admitted after completing the “Zero Semester“.
  2. Candidates with “A” level certification are required to show an equivalent certificate issued by the Inter Board Committee of the Chairman in Islamabad (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/).
  3. 14 years of Education with (BA/BSc/ADP), students can apply for 5th-semester admission after meeting the course exemption criteria.

Course Exemption

Students who have already completed 14 years of education and those wishing to transfer their credit hours from other universities are eligible for course exemption.

Degree Duration

This program is a four-year full-time course, divided into eight semesters, each semester has at least 18 weeks for teaching and examinations.

Assessment of Study Progress

The evaluation of student’s academic progress is based on continuous assessment throughout the semester, including assignments, online quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), and mid-term and final-term exams. The mid and final-term exams are conducted at VU’s designated exam centers and typically account for 80-85% of the total marks for a course.

Project or Internship

Students must complete a Final Year Project of 6 Credit Hours, divided equally between the 7th and 8th semesters (each semester carrying 3 Credit Hours).

Students must consult their advisor before selecting a final project. They must submit a written report and may be asked to present it.

Award of Degree

To be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree, a student must complete at least 134 credit hours of coursework with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
