Virtual University BS Sociology

The Bachelor of Science in Sociology program aims to equip students with the skills needed to comprehend the diverse cultural perspectives and aspects of society. This program prepares students to meet the evolving demands and challenges of the field of Sociology. Upon graduation, students will possess the necessary skills to navigate the complex social world.

Sociology is focused on social analysis, offering a comprehensive understanding of human societies and cultures through a sociological lens. It seeks to comprehend the evolutionary development and historical transformations of societies. With a contemporary emphasis on empirical research, the discipline of sociology places significant emphasis on research methods. The BS Degree Program aims to prepare students for advanced graduate study in Social Sciences and Social Science-based professions.

BS Sociology

Program Objectives

  • The objective is to provide students with conceptual tools, scientific knowledge, and practical skills necessary to develop a comprehensive understanding of the social world.
  • The program strives to improve students’ capacity to interpret the complexities of diverse human behaviors and societies within a broader context.
  • The objective is to enable students to effectively apply sociological principles to comprehend and explain the complexities of social issues, as well as develop potential solutions.
  • The program aims to train students in the practical application of sociological approaches to redefine national goals and to create a sustainable and progressive Pakistan.

BS Sociology Admission Eligibility

Applicants must have completed 12 years of education, such as Intermediate or equivalent, with a minimum of 45% marks.

  1. Candidates who have completed ‘A’ levels must provide an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairman in Islamabad from the link (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/)
  1. Candidates with less than 45% marks can be admitted after completing the “Zero Semester“.

Course Exemption

Students who have already completed 14 years of education and those wishing to transfer their credit hours from other universities are eligible for course exemption.

Degree Duration

This program is a four-year full-time course, divided into eight semesters, each semester has at least 18 weeks for teaching and examinations.

Assessment of Study Progress

Students’ academic progress is assessed continuously during the semester through assignments, online quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), midterm exams, and final exams. The midterm and final exams, which make up 80-85% of a course, are managed at the locations of the virtual university’s designated exam centers all over Pakistan as well as overseas.

Project/Internship

Students pursuing a BS Sociology degree from Fall 2021 onwards must complete the internship or a project to be eligible for the degree.

Internship Report

Students must fulfill a 6 to 8-week internship requirement.

Final Year Project

As a part of the program’s requirements, students must complete a final-year project worth 6 credits during their seventh and eighth semesters. While the topic selection is up to the students, they are required to consult with their advisor. After completing the project, students must submit a detailed write-up and present their work during a viva voice examination.

Award of Degree

To be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Sociology degree, a student must complete at least 134 credit hours of coursework with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
