The Applied Linguistics program covers key topics in second language teaching and current research in the field. The program offers specializations in areas like language acquisition, linguistics theory, bilingualism, and literacy in classrooms. Students can apply their knowledge to community projects.

BS English (Applied Linguistics)

Program Objectives

  • The objective is to equip students with the ability to use relevant linguistic concepts and terms to accurately describe language.
  • The program seeks to develop reflective and critical thinking skills among language learners to help them understand the connections between language teaching and policies.
  • The program’s goal is to help students acquire a deeper understanding of language acquisition and development by exploring the social and psychological principles underlying it.
  • The program’s objective is to help learners understand the cultural and sociopolitical aspects of language to improve their social and communicative skills in the long term. This includes promoting lifelong learning by enhancing their awareness and understanding of language.
  • The program aims to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and skills in the field of pedagogy, enabling them to identify and utilize the most effective tools to advance their professional careers.
  • The program aims to provide students with an understanding of various language teaching methods. This understanding will enable them to reflect on and develop their approach to language learning and teaching while incorporating technological advancements effectively in their classroom practices.

Admission Eligibility

12 years of Education, minimum 45% marks, FA/FSC/ICS/I.COM

  • The BS in Psychology program is only open to applicants who reside in Pakistan and is not available to international students. If accepted, any student wishing to move abroad must withdraw from the program
  • Candidates who have completed ‘A’ levels must provide an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of the Chairman in Islamabad from the link (http://www.ibcc.edu.pk/)

Course Exemption

Students who have already completed 14 years of education and those wishing to transfer their credit hours from other universities are eligible for course exemption.

Degree Duration

This program is a four-year full-time course, divided into eight semesters, each semester has at least 18 weeks for teaching and examinations.

Assessment of Study

Students’ academic progress is assessed continuously during the semester through assignments, online quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), midterm exams, and final exams. The midterm and final exams, which make up 80-85% of a course, are managed at the locations of the virtual university’s designated exam centers all over Pakistan as well as overseas.

Research Project

In the final semester of BS English (Applied Linguistics), students must complete a 3-credit hour research project on an approved topic. The project must be properly supervised, investigated, and formatted according to HEC recommendations for layout, referencing, and indexing. Students must submit a detailed write-up and may be required to give a presentation.

Award of Degree

In order to be awarded a Bachelor of BS English (Applied Linguistics), a student must complete at least 132 credit hours of coursework with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
