Associate Degree in Commerce

The Associate Degree in Commerce is a two-year undergraduate program that aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in various aspects of commerce, including accounting, finance, marketing, management, and economics. This degree program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in a wide range of industries and businesses.

During the program, students are exposed to a range of theoretical and practical concepts that help them develop an understanding of how businesses operate in today’s global economy. They learn about financial statements, budgeting, taxation, business law, ethics, and how to analyze market trends and consumer behavior. Additionally, they gain practical skills such as communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork, which are highly valued by employers in the industry.

Virtual University Diploma in Accounting & Finance

The program is structured in a way that allows students to specialize in a particular area of commerce if they wish to do so. For example, they can choose to focus on accounting, finance, or marketing. The program also includes opportunities for internships and practical training, which allow students to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in real-world settings.

Note:

Candidates who hold an Associate Degree can either continue towards their respective four-year Bachelor of Computer Science (BS) degree program, or they can apply for new admission to any four-year BS degree program (subject to meeting admission eligibility criteria and exemption/transfer of relevant qualified courses as per policy).

Objectives

  • Develop a deep understanding of various aspects of commerce, including accounting, finance, marketing, management, and economics.
  • Gain practical skills in communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork, which are highly valued by employers in the industry.
  • Specialize in a particular area of commerce, such as accounting, finance, or marketing, through elective courses or internships.
  • Learn how to analyze market trends and consumer behavior, and apply this knowledge to business decision-making.
  • Understand the principles of financial statements, budgeting, taxation, business law, and ethics.
  • Gain practical experience through internships and practical training, which allow students to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world settings.
  • Prepare for entry-level positions in a wide range of industries and businesses, such as accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, or administrative roles.
  • Build a foundation for further education in commerce or related fields, such as pursuing a bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related discipline.

Eligibility

12 years of Education, minimum 45% marks, FA/FSC/ICS/I.COM

  • Candidates who have completed ‘A’ levels must provide an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of the Chairman in Islamabad.
  • Candidates with less than 45% marks can be admitted after completing the “Zero Semester“.

Degree Duration

This program is a two-year full-time course, divided into four semesters, each semester has at least 18 weeks for teaching and examinations.

Assessment of Study Progress

Student’s academic progress is assessed continuously during the semester through assignments, online quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), midterm exams, and final exams. The midterm and final exams, which make up 80-85% of a course, are managed at the locations of the virtual university’s designated exam centers all over Pakistan and overseas.

Project or Internship

  • Students must complete a Final Year Project of 3 Credit Hours. Students must consult their advisor before selecting a final project. They must submit a written report and may be asked to present it.
  • Internship course students must complete a 6 to 8-week internship in an organization and obtain an internship letter from that organization. Currently employed students are exempt from the internship requirement but must submit a project.

Degree Awarded

In order to be awarded an Associate Degree in Commerce, a student must complete at least 66 credit hours of coursework with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
