Associate Degree Program in Operations Management

The Associate Degree Program in Operations Management is a two-year academic program that is designed to provide individuals who have completed 12 years of education with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the contemporary industrial and market landscape.

The program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to undertake routine tasks in the production and operations departments of organizations and to evaluate operations for continuous improvement and quality enhancement. Additionally, the program aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge related to production and operations, enabling them to contribute effectively to these areas of an organization.

Associate Degree Program in Operations Management

The program curriculum covers a wide range of topics including production planning and control, inventory management, quality management, supply chain management, and lean manufacturing. Additionally, students are taught critical principles related to project management, operations research, and statistical analysis.

Upon completion of the program, graduates can apply their knowledge and skills to real-world situations, making them valuable assets to any organization. They will be able to effectively manage operations, ensure quality and continuous improvement, and contribute to the growth and success of the organization.

Objectives

  • Apply their knowledge of production and operations to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within an organization
  • Demonstrate proficiency in key areas such as production planning and control, inventory management, quality management, and supply chain management
  • Apply principles of lean manufacturing to reduce waste and increase productivity within an organization
  • Use statistical analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of operations and identify areas for improvement
  • Understand the importance of project management and be able to contribute effectively to project teams within an organization
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders across an organization, including production workers, managers, and customers
  • Apply ethical and sustainable practices to production and operations to promote responsible business practices
  • Continuously seek opportunities to learn and develop their production and operations management skills.

Eligibility

12 years of Education, minimum 45% marks, FA/FSC/ICS/I.COM

  1. Candidates who have completed ‘A’ levels must provide an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of the Chairman in Islamabad.
  2. Candidates with less than 45% marks can be admitted after completing the “Zero Semester”.

Degree Duration

This program is a two-year full-time course, divided into four semesters, each semester has at least 18 weeks for teaching and examinations.

Assessment of Study Progress

Student’s academic progress is assessed continuously during the semester through assignments, online quizzes, Graded Discussion Boards (GDBs), midterm exams, and final exams. The midterm and final exams, which make up 80-85% of a course, are managed at the locations of the virtual university’s designated exam centers all over Pakistan and overseas.

Project or Internship

  • Students must complete a Final Year Project of 3 Credit Hours. Students must consult their advisor before selecting a final project. They must submit a written report and may be asked to present it.
  • Internship course students must complete a 6 to 8-week internship in an organization and obtain an internship letter from that organization. Currently employed students are exempt from the internship requirement but must submit a project.

Degree Awarded

In order to be awarded an Associate Degree in Operations Management, a student must complete at least 69 credit hours of coursework with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
